The LUSID web app allows you to create custom dashboard sets so you can view and interact with the appropriate data. You can create shared workspaces to organise and group your dashboards and sets, and share them with particular colleagues so you’re all looking at the same information.
Workspaces is a preview feature with further enhancements in progress
You may find that the feature is not fully rounded off, and encounter unexpected details.
We encourage you to experiment with the feature by clicking the Use workspaces... button. Once you have finished experimenting, you can revert back to your existing setup by clicking the Use Personalisations… button.
If you are looking to set up shared dashboards with specific entitlements, contact us to discuss how best to implement your requirements.
Enabling workspaces
By default, LUSID disables workspaces for each LUSID user. To get started with workspaces, navigate to Dashboards > Dashboard Sets and click the Use workspaces… button:.png?sv=2022-11-02&spr=https&st=2026-03-25T08%3A03%3A04Z&se=2026-03-25T08%3A17%3A04Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=V8kHUmdYvZ%2F1wE%2FpvrEWZ%2FCn%2FGtsU6CfTzmMzeEnD8E%3D)
Creating a shared workspace
Note
Every LUSID user has their own My Workspace that only they can view and edit.
My Workspace is a private workspace, personal to each user.
Any other workspaces you create are shared workspaces that all users, given they have suitable permissions, can view or edit.
To create a shared workspace, click the Create workspace button in the Workspace dropdown..png?sv=2022-11-02&spr=https&st=2026-03-25T08%3A03%3A04Z&se=2026-03-25T08%3A17%3A04Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=V8kHUmdYvZ%2F1wE%2FpvrEWZ%2FCn%2FGtsU6CfTzmMzeEnD8E%3D)
Note dashboard sets do not migrate into workspaces, so you’ll need to create your sets.
Adding new dashboards to a workspace
With your new workspace selected, you can add or import your desired dashboard sets, including:
Out-of-the-box and customised LUSID dashboards
Summary views and charts of valuations, cashflows, and workflows
Saved queries from Luminesce, our data virtualisation tool
Existing dashboards from your other sets and workspaces, which can be displayed without duplicating storage
You can rename and provide a description for dashboards and sets when you Save:.png?sv=2022-11-02&spr=https&st=2026-03-25T08%3A03%3A04Z&se=2026-03-25T08%3A17%3A04Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=V8kHUmdYvZ%2F1wE%2FpvrEWZ%2FCn%2FGtsU6CfTzmMzeEnD8E%3D)
When saving, note:
You must assign each dashboard or set to a Workspace. LUSID populates the Workspace for all dashboards when you select a value for their set, but you can manually override each selection.
You must specify a Group for each dashboard and set. A Group acts similarly to a scope that, together with its Name, uniquely identifies a dashboard or set within a workspace.
You can select the
icon to exclude certain dashboards or sets from the save. This can be useful if, for example:You’re ready to save some, but not all, of your dashboards and sets.
You encounter an error when saving a particular dashboard but want to continue saving the other dashboards.
Note
For dashboards in workspaces, you don’t need to select a view. Instead, each dashboard in a set functions as a view with its own column configuration, which LUSID saves and displays for everyone with access to the workspace.
If you want to switch between different views, you must add a new dashboard to the set with your required configuration.
Adding existing dashboards to another set or workspace
You can choose to display a dashboard in more than one dashboard set and workspace. Users of a given dashboard set can then view and interact with the existing dashboard as usual.
To add an existing dashboard to a set, select + > Add dashboard from workspaces…:.png?sv=2022-11-02&spr=https&st=2026-03-25T08%3A03%3A04Z&se=2026-03-25T08%3A17%3A04Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=V8kHUmdYvZ%2F1wE%2FpvrEWZ%2FCn%2FGtsU6CfTzmMzeEnD8E%3D)
Moving or removing dashboards from a set or workspace
Every dashboard and set must have a designated “source“ workspace. You can hover over a dashboard name to see the source in the format <workspace>/<group>/<name>:
When you add an existing dashboard to an additional set or workspace, LUSID displays the dashboard while maintaining it at its source. Changes to the dashboard appear across all sets and workspaces.
Dashboards are not permanently fixed to their “source“ workspace. You can update the workspace a dashboard originates from by choosing to Move the dashboard or set it originates from:
If a dashboard moves from the source location: The source location reference breaks. Ensure you notify affected dashboard set users that they must re-add the dashboard using the new source location.
If you remove a dashboard from another dashboard set: The dashboard itself remains within the source location, and continues to be available elsewhere.
If you delete a dashboard in the source location: LUSID stops displaying the dashboard in all sets and workspaces.
Example
Imagine you create a dashboard set named Orders in a workspace named PortfolioManagementEU, and then add an OrderBlotter dashboard to the set:
.png?sv=2022-11-02&spr=https&st=2026-03-25T08%3A03%3A04Z&se=2026-03-25T08%3A17%3A04Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=V8kHUmdYvZ%2F1wE%2FpvrEWZ%2FCn%2FGtsU6CfTzmMzeEnD8E%3D)
The OrderBlotter dashboard has the source location
PortfolioManagementEU/GroupA/OrderBlotter.If you add the existing OrderBlotter dashboard to a set named OrderManagement in a different workspace, My Workspace, it maintains the source location and displays the dashboard in both sets.
A set can contain source location dashboards and existing dashboards from other sets and workspaces simultaneously. You could, for example, create a new set named OrderManagement, and add existing dashboards from both the Orders and PortfolioManagement sets.

Troubleshooting
EntityWithIdAlreadyExists error when saving
When saving a dashboard set, you may see an error stating that a dashboard with the given name already exists, even though the dashboard doesn't appear in your current set view.
This happens because dashboards and dashboard sets exist independently within workspaces. LUSID uniquely identifies each dashboard by the combination of its Name and Group within a workspace, and retains it there even if no set currently references it. A dashboard you saved previously can still occupy the name/group combination in the workspace, causing a conflict when you try to save a new dashboard under the same name.
To resolve the issue:
Navigate to Data Management > Workspaces.
Select the workspace where you are trying to save the dashboard.
Find the existing item with the conflicting name and group.
Either delete the old dashboard if it is no longer needed, or save your new dashboard under a different Name or Group to avoid the conflict.
Important
Before deleting an existing dashboard, be aware that the same dashboard item may be referenced by other sets or workspaces. Deleting it will remove it from all locations where it is displayed. If you are unsure whether it is in use elsewhere, consider renaming your new dashboard instead.
