How do I roll or unwind a futures contract?

You can manage your upcoming futures contract expirations using the Rebalance dashboard. LUSID generates the suggested orders for you to:

• Unwind a futures contract, that is, sell out of the position

• Roll a futures contract, that is, extend the expiration date

To do so:

1. Sign in to the LUSID web app with suitable credentials.

2. Navigate to Dashboard > Rebalance via the top left menu.

3. Select your Portfolio / Group, and either:

   • A portfolio valuation Recipe

   • A Portfolio mapping

4. Select the Future holding that you wish to roll or unwind.
   

5. Select the Options icon > Unwind / Roll.
   

6. Select Unwind or Roll from the Unwind / Roll dropdown.
   

7. If you select:

   • Unwind: LUSID suggests an order to sell out of the position. You can make any adjustments to the order as usual, then select Create.
     

   • Roll: LUSID suggests orders to:

     • Sell out of the current position

     • Prompt you to select an extended Future to buy at the current market price

     You can make any adjustments to the order as usual, then select Create.
     

Once you create the orders, you can use the Order Blotter to block, place, and monitor your executions as usual. Read more.
