Creating identifiers for entities

Investment accounts, investor records, and people and institutions representing investors all require at least one identifier.

An identifier is a data structure consisting of:

  • A domain representing the entity type (either InvestmentAccount, InvestorRecord, Person or LegalEntity)

  • A scope

  • A code

  • A value

Together, these components combine to help uniquely identify an entity in LUSID.

For example, when you create an investment account you are required to add an identifier. If none yet exist, click the Create identifiers button:

When you click Save, the newly-created identifier type is listed in the Identifier dashboard. Select it and click Submit to add to the investment account, and then specify a Value. Note this must be unique among all investment accounts in the same scope:

You can add multiple identifiers to the same investment account, perhaps to identify the entity in different contexts. For example, you could add an identifier originating from an internal system to complement one from an external system:
