How do I find and re-run a past query?

Prev Next

LumiCode keeps track of the queries you run, so you rarely need to type one twice. Depending on how far back the query is, and whether you want its results or just its SQL, there are four ways to get it back.

Which method to use

You want

Use

A query you ran a moment ago

The Up arrow

A query you ran recently in LumiCode, to run, save or schedule it

/recent

The results of a past query, without running it again

/results

Any query you ran, from LumiCode or anywhere else, such as the web Query Editor

/history

Prerequisites

Methods

Method 1: Recall a query with the Up arrow

At an empty prompt, press the Up arrow. LumiCode puts your last query back in the editor. Press it again to go further back, then edit the query and press Enter to run it.

Method 2: Browse your recent queries with /recent

  1. Type /recent and press Enter. LumiCode lists the queries you've run, newest first. Type to filter the list.

  2. Select a query and press Enter.

  3. Choose what to do with it:

    • run it now

    • discuss it with Candela

    • put it under ↑ without running it, so the Up arrow recalls it

    • delete it from the history

    • copy it to the clipboard

    • save it to a file

    • make it into a saved query

    • run it on a schedule. See How do I schedule a query from LumiCode?

Shortcut

/recent numbers its queries. Typing a query's number at the prompt recalls it without opening the list.

Method 3: Reload past results with /results

Luminesce keeps a query's results for a while after it finishes. /results reloads them, so you don't have to wait for the query to run again.

  1. Type /results and press Enter. LumiCode lists your completed queries whose results haven't expired yet, newest first. To list only the queries that contain some text, type /results <text>.

  2. Select a query and choose load the results.

The loaded results behave as if the query had just run, so /rows, /stats, /chart, /group, /save and /feedback all work on them. A multi-query appears once in the list: you can load all its results, or just one.

Method 4: Search all your queries with /history

/history searches every query you've run in your domain, from LumiCode, the web Query Editor or anywhere else.

  1. Type /history and press Enter.

  2. Choose a time range: the last hour, day, week or month, or an exact range.

  3. Optionally, provide SQL contains to up-front filter by SQL.  This is for performance and decluttering. / can be used to filter later.

  4. Optionally, choose Failed only to keep just the queries that failed, then narrow them by error message.

  5. Browse the queries under their histogram. Press / to filter on the SQL, and Enter to see everything about one query.

  6. In that detail:

    • Press r to run the query again.

    • Press e to put it in the editor, as the Up arrow does, so you can change it first.

    • Press c to copy it to the clipboard, or t to keep it in the transcript.

    • Press f to see its feedback log.

By default, you see only your own queries. Show Extra shows everyone's queries in your domain, if you have permission to see them.
