# Creating investor records

When you [create an investment account](/v1/docs/managing-investors-in-the-lusid-web-app) you are required to add an *investor record* linking the account to a particular investor.

If none yet exist, click the **Create investor record** button and, in the **Details** area:

- Specify a **Scope** for the investor record, consisting of up to 64 letters and numbers (no spaces).
- Specify an **Investor record name**.
- Choose an appropriate **Investor entity type**. Note this choice is restricted by the [investment account type](/v1/docs/investor-management).

In the **Identifiers** area, add at least one [identifier](/v1/docs/creating-identifiers-for-entities-in-the-lusid-web-app) to the investor record to uniquely identify it:

On either the **Legal entity** or the **Person** screen (depending on the **Investor entity type**), add at least one investor:
